Wyatt as a little boy

I remember Wyatt stuffing way too much food in his mouth every single time and barely being able to close his lips. It drove our parents crazy. And it was kind of gross.

I remember playing wild animals and tying twine string and jump ropes to our belt loops as long tails and pretending we were tigers and lions and stuff.

And playing "Little House on the Prairie". Wyatt was always Albert. I think we made Kyla Mary and she had to be blind sometimes.

I thought of another one today, since it's getting close to Christmas. One year Wyatt got a Lego set from Santa. It was just what he had been wanting forever. Great, right? Well, you'd think, except in every single photo from that Christmas Wyatt is bawling his eyes out and looking really distressed. Kyla and I were so crabby at him because we didn't know why he was crying and ruining everyone's mood. Years later I asked him, because we saw one of the crying photos, and he told me it was because he was so happy with the Legos he just couldn't stand it, and started crying out of joy! Can you even believe it? I thought that was about the cutest thing ever.

I remember when I would go over to the house, wyatt would always play the playstation with me, and he would always play basketball with me. It was so fun!

We got Mr. Freezes from Sam's Club, like seriously a gross of them every other week, and Wyatt would eat at least 75% of them himself. And leave the wrappers under the TV stand in the basement. And gum wrappers, and sucker wrappers, and jolly rancher wrappers... you get the idea.

When Wyatt was little he loved to collect baseball cards. I guess that is how he and Jeremy became friends. Anyway, he had thousands of them. He still does. When I was looking through his stuff I found a huge bin of them and binders full of them. When I would ask him when he was young what he was going to do with them he said they will be my retirement. He was such a sweet boy.

I remember when Wyatt was 13 or 14yrs old. I would sit by him while he played the piano and beg him to play me a song. He would get a big smile on his face. I always told Wyatt that he had to Marry me when he was older....thats when his face turned bright red and Jeannie would tell me to leave him alone he needed to practice. He was such a cutie, even when he was young!!

I remember when all of us kids were sitting around the dining room table, and we must have been looking at school pictures or something, because I drew his school picture from when he was in either 8th or 9th grade, and it looked exactly like him! It was his ugly stage, and the picture was exactly right, so he got mad because I drew such a good, ugly picture of him.

I loved being twins with Wyatt. As far back as I can remember I used to chase him everywhere trying to kiss him. Ok, I stopped as we got older, but my hugs never ceased. I will miss so badly putting my arms around his slender waist and feeling his arms around me. Oh how proud I was to be his sister.

Wyatt was a very good brother, and although he made me cry everyday for a couple years there, he protected me. I remember one time all of us grandkids were out playing in Grandpa and Grandma's field out in the country in Mitchell. All the sudden we (or I) stepped in a wasps nest and I got stung at least four or five times. I was really just in shock by the whole thing and didn't really react, but Wyatt ran for the house as fast as he could for help, just to make sure I would be ok. Another time I got hit in the head by a pinata stick, and he ran toward the house yelling "Call 911, Call 911!" What a cute, funny kid he was.

Kyla, you twins ALWAYS stuck together when you were little, you always took each other's sides and stuck up for each other. The rest of us pretty much knew if we took on one of you, we took on both!

Through out the years I have many memories of Wyatt. I will never for get all the times the Ammons, Raves, Dauguards, Puttmans, and Dearduffs spent together. From camping at Island, to spending weekends at my parents cabin, or playing at the Ammon's farm. I remember at my parents cabin there were always so many of us kids that we usually all slept in the living room on the floor cause there were not enough beds for all of us. And sure enough Wyatt as always the first one up and wanting to go swimming or just go outside and play. Weather it was tubing behind the boat, swinging off the rope, or just playing outside we all had a good time. As we grew up and I went off to college and didn't see Wyatt as often as I used to, anytime I was home to Dells and ran into him he always took the time to find out what was going on in my life.

I was telling Ginger last night on the phone that I had a dream about the Ammon's house out in the country by us the other night. The next day, I kept thinking about us as little kids, and Ginger told me about this link.

I have a lot of special memories from when us kids were young and growing up. I remember riding the bus, and our bus driver would wait until all of the other "good" children were off the bus, and then turn down his hearing aid, blast the radio music, in an attempt, I guess, to control the Ammon and Rave children. I know there was at least one occassion where he forced Wyatt to sit on the front step right by him and the front door. It was an unusual punishment, and I don't really believe it made any of us behave differently the next trip. In fact, we rebelled!!! and rode our bikes to school instead to show him!!

I also remember babysitting Ginger, Kyla, Wyatt, and Allison. Ginger and I laugh at that now, because we were and are best friends, and I was babysitting her! Anyway, I would always scramble through my "treasure" drawer at home before a babysitting job. It was a drawer filled with erasers, stickers, or trinkets you collect as a child. I would bring them as prizes and set up a carnival to entertain the four kids for the afternoon.

I also remember going to the lake with our moms. I remember coming home one day in the back of the wagon. Of course all of the back seats were down, so us kids were rolling around and sitting on coolers. I know for sure, Kyla, and I know there was one other of us, I am not sure if it was Wyatt or someone else, but they fell asleep sitting up on the coolers on the way home. They must have been tired!

Kyla,

Would you be referring to the birthday party that Jesse happened to whack your head with that stick!!??

I hope this isn't too much of intrusion into what is clearly a close circle of family and friends. Just chalk this up to the weird randomness of the Internet and ignore me as necessary.

While drinking whiskey and surfing the web for dynamic dns administration tools tonight I came across a reference to Wyatt on phpcult.com and I got curious and googled his name.

Although I didn't know Wyatt I am genuinely touched by your remembrances of him. The photos and stories have had me in tears. My sister and mother both served in the Peace Corps, my sister in Mali. I guess somehow I feel connected because of that. I just want to say I feel for your loss and hope you all find comfort in each other's company and shared memories.

I have to go now... I just found the tokyoflash web site that Wyatt mentioned in his blog and those watches are just too cool.

I could be kind of a tyrant big sister (I think they all are) and one day I was fighting with Wyatt while we were playing and shoved him. He fell back and hit his head against a corner, and you know head wounds, it started to bleed. Oh my gosh, I was so scared and sorry, I said I was sorry about a million times and he told me it was OK, that it didn't even hurt, that he couldn't believe it was bleeding. He forgave me right away, and we made up and kept playing.

Well, it's May Day today. As a little kid I can remember my siblings and I taking May Day baskets with candy over to the Ammons. We'd put them on the front step knock loud and then run and hide.

Hard to believe it's been a year already since I posted the last message on May Day. Telling the story about May Day to Aaron last night. He had never heard of May Day or May Day baskets. Just makes me think about Wyatt. Things were so simple when we were kids. I was at my parent's house this last weekend and reminiscing about growing up and playing outside with all of the Ammon kids and my siblings. Happy May Day Wyatt! Miss you!

The other day I somehow got talking about being able to touch my foot to my head. This made me think about how I used to bite my toenails when I was a kid. I know this is gross and no it is not something I do anymore. Anyways, it made me think about Wyatt. I can remember Wyatt being amazed by this and asking me to bite his toenails. As far as I remember I never did. Still think about you Wyatt and miss you dearly.
