Wyatt in Jr. High/High School

Wyatt must have been a freshman. He went to the movies with someone, probably Lindberg, and got popcorn. I LOVE leftover movie theater popcorn, when it starts to get chewy, and Wyatt knew it, so instead of throwing the rest of his bag away at the end of the movie, he brought it home to give to me. I wasn't home, so he put it on top of my dresser with a note that said, "Ginger, here is some stale popcorn for you ----->" It was so nice of him to remember I liked it. I kept that little note for years. I can still picture it in my head. I might still have it.

When Wyatt was a senior we had a football game over in Howard. In there locker rooms they have those new lockers that are more square than rectangular. Wyatt thought that he could fit in one, but no one thought that he could or would because kick off was less than an hour away. But of course he stuffed himself inside it. He couldn’t quite shut the door so one of the guys gave a big shove and the door latched. It was quite a sight, with Wyatt’s knees cramming into his face. We all had a good laugh, but things got a little scary as soon as Borns decided to latch the lock that was on the door. We quickly went into panic mode trying to figure out how to get him out without letting the coaches know. After a few failed attempts, we finally had to go tell Coach Hansen. He was very confused and in disbelief, but that quickly left him as he entered the locker room and saw the situation. He went and found a janitor, who had to get the bolt cutters to get him out. Let’s just saw we did not receive a Rah Rah speech before that game. Luckily, the Quarriers came out on top that game so everyone could laugh about it afterward… Except Coach Hansen who still probably hasn’t laughed about it yet. J/K

I completely forgot about that until I read "...football game in howard," and I started laughing hystarically. Thanks for the reminder on the great classic "only Wyatt" story.

Actually, Coach Hansen CAN laugh about it now. He told us the "Wyatt in the locker" story when he came over to the house during that terrible week. We all laughed, then we all cried. Coach Hansen is a good man.

I remember Wyatt always being at some sport practice or another so he'd miss supper. Dad would make him up this huge plate of food and save it for him in the microwave. He'd come home and hunch over it and chow down in the breakfast nook. :-)
